However, some real estate agents are not all they’ve cracked up to be.  In some instances, real estate agents have been little more than thieves, placing people in horrible financial situations.  Therefore, it is essential that you vet that real estate agent prior to allowing them to find homes for your needs.  This is actually a much better option than relying on “word of mouth” from “satisfied” clients.  If you make use of public records, you can research any real estate agent and learn how effective they might be in your quest for a dream home.

What can you learn when you use public records to vet your real estate agent? First, you can often learn what level of education they have attained. While there are not specific college courses designed for those who wish to specialize in real estate, you can often judge such a realtor on the training they have undergone through national realty organizations.  You can also learn how effective they have been as an agent and even what their personal financial situation is like.  This can be a tremendous barometer to their effectiveness in putting you together with the right home.

Of course, public records also allow you to investigate their criminal background, as well as much more.  Through these records, you can ensure that the agent you choose is actually the best one for your needs.  For instance, if they claim to have a certain number of years in the area and are therefore the most qualified, a simple background check will give you their previous addresses, allowing you to verify their claims.  This can result in the best working relationship and the best house for your money, which is what the entire process is about anyway.
